Getting Projects to the Finish Line

One of the biggest challenges in my life is finishing projects. I always have a million different ideas, and often set off working on new ones before taking the time to complete the one that I had previously started. This leaves me with a lot of loose ends to tie up at the end of the day.

Not only that, it also leaves me with a bunch of products that are 90% of the way completed but have yet to see the light of day.

So, I’m here in this journal to remind myself that it’s time to get things over the finish line. Over the past 6 months I have quietly been building an entire suite of WordPress plugins which bring unprecedented functionality to the ecosystem.

I genuinely believe the things I’m building could disrupt some long-standing businesses who have been in the game for years. They have huge userbases and giant teams of developers but here I am in my bedroom coding replacement plugins that do everything they do, except better.

Of course, the problem is that my plugins are all on my local machine right now, except for one: AI Bot for bbPress. That plugin is super niche, for bbPress forums, but it was a start for me. It got me published in the WordPress repository, and it was proof that I can indeed create usable, professional level software.

My other plugins, which have all yet to be completed and submitted, are worth much more in monetary value. I have a grand vision that feels like a large pile of work, but I’m determined to take this to the finish line. This journal entry is a way of organizing my thoughts.

So, the idea is that this website will become the central hub for all of my plugins. So instead of creating individual websites for each tool, and licensing them separately, I will have one place, one personal brand, where all of my projects are documented, marketed, and distributed.

For one of my plugins, Auto Cold Outreach, I created a custom licensing manager as well as a custom website. That website is going to be deleted, and the licensing plugin is going to be made universal so it can handle all of my plugins.

Then, there will be a plugins page on this website where visitors can browse and get documentation on how to use each of them directly on my website.

Instead of being a sales portfolio, it becomes a digital hub of my own that can be directly monetized using my own projects, in addition to any clients who may be interested in hiring me.

Additionally, this website will contain a Games section, where I will share all my javascript minigames that I’ve created for fun. These games are encapsulated by the Chubes Games plugin. This part is not an idea to make money, but moreso just a showcase of what I can do, and a way to keep people entertained if that’s what they want to do.

At the end of the day, I know that I need to get things over the finish line. One at a time, I will see these projects through to completion, and my vision will come to life. I just have to get myself to stop starting new projects until I’ve completely finished the one before.

That’s the ADHD challenge of life. But in order to be successful, truly successful, the finish line must be crossed. The boxes must be ticked.

Writing in this way helps me to get the thoughts out and motivate myself. I have a real plan. I’m not trying to convince anybody but myself. Things take time, and they are difficult and not very fun always, but in order to win you have to go forward through the parts that are not fun.

If you read this, I applaud you. Thanks for visiting my website. Hopefully when I return to this post in 6 months I will have completed the things I’ve set out to complete here. I know that I will. Because despite building 7 different plugins, they are all innately connected and can work together as part of one ecosystem.

The ecosystem was the vision I needed. It helps me wrap my head around it and feel less overwhelmed about the prospect of having so many different products. It’s manageable if it’s all done here. And actually rather cool, I’d say. Considering I’m also a writer and have a tendency to document my journey in a stream-of-consciousness style.

Cheers. Here’s to creating a software development company in my bedroom.
